Expanded media card range now offers formats for every device

Fujifilm, the market leader in memory cards for digital devices, has announced the introduction of new media card formats aimed at both the professional photographer and the consumer.

The professional and consumer ranges will feature separate and distinctive packaging, and the extended portfolio means that almost every media card on the market can now be found under the Fujifilm brand - offering customers a straight forward path to whichever format they require.

Fujifilm Professional Media
Every single media card in Fujifilm's Professional Media range comes complete with a Lifetime Guarantee.

Kicking off the new range, Fujifilm's High Speed SecureDigital™ (SD) card is available in 60x and 133x speeds. The 60x speed comes in 256MB, 512MB and 1GB sizes. The 133x speed card (offering up to 20MB/second transfer rate) is available in 512MB and 1GB sizes, and has undergone a rigorous and specially designed testing process to ensure it can withstand extreme conditions, including a temperature range of -25 to +85 degrees Celsius. This makes it the perfect format for snow sports and extreme pursuits.

The cards' high-speed transfer and recording rates enable high resolution images to be stored and read more quickly - meaning faster continuous shooting and longer movie recording on digital cameras. SD cards are widely used within cameras, camcorders, PDAs, mobile phones and other devices.

Fujifilm's CompactFlash™ range now incorporates higher capacity media and faster speeds, including both 40x and 133x. The 40x CompactFlash card is available in 256MB to 4GB sizes, and the 133x version in 1GB - 8GB sizes.

Fujifilm is the UK market leader in xD-Picture Card™ media, and offers an entire range of capacities from 16MB to the newly launched 1GB. This memory format offers fast read-write times, lower power consumption, and is used as standard in several leading brands of digital camera.

Fujifilm Consumer and Mobile Media
Fujifilm's comprehensive selection of general-purpose media cards, designed for consumer electronics and mobile devices, come with a 5 Year Guarantee.

The company has introduced MMCplus™ to its range, replacing the traditional MMC (MultiMedia Card) format, and providing a dramatic increase in speed. Available in sizes from 128MB to 1GB, MMCplus has been designed to be backwards and forwards compatible, meaning that it can be used in existing devices using traditional MMC as well as future devices based on the MMCplus format.

Fujifilm is also entering the mobile media market with the introduction of MMCmobile™, a range of memory cards designed not only for cameras, but for mobile phones and PDAs that require additional storage for multimedia files such as pictures, video clips, ring tones and music. A replacement for RS-MMC, Fujifilm MMCmobile is available in capacities from 64MB up to 1GB and is dual-voltage (1.8 and 3.3 volt), which means it will work in all mobile handsets. The cards are backwards and forwards compatible, and also come with an adaptor enabling them to fit existing MMC card readers and devices.

The Mini SecureDigital™ (SD) card is also designed for use in mobile phones. Available in capacities up to 1GB, MiniSD cards include an adaptor to make them compatible with all digital cameras, mobile phones, portable storage and PDAs that take standard SD cards.

The new professional and consumer formats expand Fujifilm's existing portfolio of media cards, which already includes:

  • xD-Picture Card™ - fast, reliable flash media for digital cameras and portable storage.
  • CompactFlash™ (12x) - a rugged and reliable media card used in a variety of applications including digital cameras and notebooks which is available in sizes up to 256MB. A 20x speed card is also available, in sizes up to 1GB.
  • Standard SecureDigital™ (SD) - small-format flash media used in a variety of devices such as PDAs, camcorders, mobile phones and digital cameras, in sizes up to 2GB.
  • SmartMedia™ - a digital camera memory card, available in capacities up to 128MB.
  • The Memory Stick™ range from Fujifilm can be used to store a variety of digital media, including pictures, music, video and computer data.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said, "With the introduction of multimedia phones capable of storing music and pictures, as well as ringtones and video, use of digital media cards is greater than ever before. This is why we are now offering a specific range compatible with general consumer devices, alongside formats for professional photographers.

"When it comes to media cards, there is an inherent trust in the Fujifilm brand, which stems from our history in film. As a market leader, Fujifilm is committed to offering our customers a single source for virtually every media format on the market."
