Samsung: New DSLR to match *ist DL2? By

(Friday, January 27, 2006 - 15:20 EST)A couple of weeks ago, Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung launched its first digital SLR, the fruit of its cooperation with camera company Pentax.
The Samsung GX-1S was in essence a rebadging of Pentax's existing *ist DS2 digital SLR, presumably to get Samsung's name established in the market at the earliest opportunity. Earlier today, Pentax announced a new digital SLR, the *ist DL2 - and it looks like Samsung will be rebadging that camera as well. Sites around the web have recently published rumors of a digital SLR called the Samsung GX-1L, and German website digitalkamera.de has listed specifications for the camera which match up nicely with Pentax's DL2. A Chinese website, Zol.com.cn, also has photos purporting to be the Samsung GX-1L, lending further credence to the rumor.
Samsung has yet to comment - there's nothing on the GX-1L on the company's websites as yet. There's still no mention of the GX-1S on most of Samsung's sites either, though, so it could be that the announcement is still forthcoming, or it could be that there's no big splash planned for the GX-1L. Either way, we aren't currently aware of pricing or availability for the Samsung GX-1L. Specifications translated from digitalkamera.de's information follow below, and should there be an official announcement, you can expect to read it on our news page.
