Leica Camera AG has released a new version of firmware for its Digital-Modul-R digital back for the Leica R8 and R9 cameras, but the company notes that users may perhaps wish to hold off on applying the update.

Digital-Modul-R firmware version 1.2 has a number of changes, including improved image reproduction on the LCD display, improved image color, new compatibility with 4GB Secure Digital cards and Mac OS 10.3, improved Japanese language menus, optimized data processing, and a fix for a bug with saving ISO Push settings. The company is noting that some users have reported a color cast when reviewing images on the LCD display, however, and so have simultaneously republished the previous version 1.1 of firmware to allow users to revert upgrades at their option.

The company notes that a new version of firmware correcting the color cast problem should be forthcoming shortly.
