Announced at PMA2007 and released near the end of that year, the Pentax 200mm f/2.8 DA* is the third version of this telephoto prime released by Pentax since 1984. The DA* incorporates the latest technology available from Pentax, most notably the SDM ("Supersonic Drive Motor") autofocus system, bringing it on par with other major manufacturers.
