Canon Inc. has today released updated firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR aimed at correcting certain image quality issues.

Specifically, Canon's EOS 5D Mark II firmware version 1.0.7 is intended to fix problems with black dots adjacent to the right side of bright point light sources, as well as vertical banding noise patterns.

The firmware update is accompanied by new releases of Canon's Digital Photo Professional and Picture Style Editor software, and the company is requesting users to update either application at the same time as updating their camera's firmware.

Full details, including the specific upgrade procedure to be followed, can be found on the Canon Japan website.
