PRESS RELEASE: Picture Information Extractor PIE 5.0 Released

Picmeta Systems released version 5.0 of its Picture Information Extractor (PIE), which includes numerous new features, unicode support and XMP and IPTC metadata.

Among the new features there is an improved file browser with history and favorites management, automatic creation of a folder structure when downloading photos, change of the date picture taken in RAW formats and lossless cropping of JPEG images. The user interface has been reworked and now presents itself also in charcoal or black.

In addition to EXIF data the new version supports XMP and IPTC metadata. Editing of metadata is now possible even in some RAW formats such as Adobe DNG. Data such as description, name and copyright is directly written into the file, thus no external database or sidecar file is required. At this, the EXIFcare technology ensures that all information contained in the file is maintained. For example, the makernote block which hosts many vendor-specific data will not be overwritten as it usually happens with other programs.

PIE is a photo browser and viewer with extensive metadata functionality. The software extracts metadata from JPG and RAW formats of practically all cameras. Based on these data, PIE automates repetitive tasks such as transferring and renaming of image files. The renaming is keyed to date and time or various photographic information, flexibly definable by the user.

Vertical photos are automatically and losslessly rotated. Thanks to a large database of vendor-specific formats PIE is able to read makernote data of most cameras. Other products by Picmeta Systems are PrintStation, a program for creating photo albums and proof sheets, and PIE Studio, which combines the metadata features of PIE with the printing functions of PrintStation.

A free evaluation version of PIE 5.0 can be downloaded from the Picmeta Website. The software runs on Windows 95,98,ME,2000,XP and Vista. The full version costs US$ 35. Licensed users are entitled to lifetime free updates.
