Germany's PENTACON GmbH is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its PRAKTICA brandname with a new digital camera model.

The PRAKTICA luxmedia 12-03 is very closely related to the company's existing luxmedia 8403 model - indeed, the product page accidentaly hints at the link by including the older model's product number near the top. Differences in the new PRAKTICA 12-03 model include a slight increase in resolution from eight to twelve megapixels and a reduction in the slowest shutter speed from eight to two seconds. The luxmedia 12-03 also drops support for Microsoft's now rather aged Windows 98 operating system, with only Windows 2000 / XP / Vista officially supported.

Alongside the announcement of the PRAKTICA luxmedia 12-03, PENTACON is also to launch a new website devoted to the history of the PRAKTICA brand. Available soon at http://history.praktica.de/, the new site will include information on the company's history and a timeline of the products it has offered over the years. Product specifications, production details, photos and even product manuals will be offered, according to the screenshots shown on the museum's placeholder page currently.

Pricing and availability for the PRAKTICA luxmedia 12-03 have not been disclosed at the time of this writing.
