Software giant Microsoft is to launch a photo contest promoting its new Bing search engine on Monday.

The Bing Summer Photo Contest will be conducted through the popular Facebook social networking website, and the theme will be "Summer Travel". Photos must be submitted as unwatermarked landscape-format JPEG images with greater than 970 x 528 pixel resolution / 1MB file size. Submissions shouldn't look staged or show signs of manipulation, should leave room around the subject to allow for cropping and Bing's overlaid layout, and are not allowed to contain recognizable people, third-party trademarks or objectionable content.

The winning photo will be selected by the combination of public ratings and evaluation by Bing's editorial team, and the winner's photo will be featured on the Bing homepage for 24 hours at a later date. Ownership of photos remains with the photographer, but perpetual, royalty-free non-exclusive permission must be granted for Microsoft to use the image to promote the Bing search engine in any medium.

For more details and to enter, visit the Bing Summer Photo Contest page on Facebook.
