With supplier Franke & Heidecke having closed down, followed by parent company Jenoptik AG's announcement that it planned to exit the medium-format camera business, July 2009 was a difficult month for Sinar AG.
More positive news is now coming to light, however, with reports that Sinar has now been spun off into two separate entities. First, a management buyout saw Sinar's manufacturing capabilities integrated into Feuerthalen, Switzerland-based Femron AG. This has been followed with a second deal that transfers Sinar AG's Development, Sales, Service and Support divisions to the newly formed Sinar Photography AG. According to a report last week from the PMA Newsline, and mirrored by a press release published on PhotographyBLOG, Sinar Photography AG will relocate to Zurich, Switzerland. The company will continue to support and maintain existing Sinar products, and is negotiating a possible continuation of the Hy6 medium-format camera. Femron AG will produce mechanical cameras and accessories for Sinar Photography.
