Movie-makers get mobile with MGI; MGI PhotoSuite Mobile Edition to be Showcased by Palm, Inc. at Cannes Film Festival

CAMPBELL, CA and TORONTO, ONT--April 18, 2001-- MGI (TSE:MGI), a leading global provider of visual media software products and infrastructure, today announced that its PhotoSuite Mobile Edition software will be featured within a special software suite being produced by Palm, Inc. for visitors to the Cannes Film Festival (9-20 May 2001). The CD will include a wide range of applications designed to serve the entertainment community, which will allow artists and producers to be more efficient using their Palm handheld computers.

Based on MGI's market-leading imaging and video technology, MGI PhotoSuite Mobile Edition allows users to store, view and beam photo and video files on color and grayscale Palm Powered handhelds and is the most powerful application in its class. The software, which includes a desktop component for Windows and Mac users, supports the viewing, storing and beaming of still images, video clips, slide-show presentations, maps and other images.

"Many of our customers from the film industry will find PhotoSuite Mobile Edition invaluable for showcasing images and movie clips in their day-to-day work, with the convenience and practicality of always having examples of their work at their fingertips," said Franck Gaget, senior marketing manager Palm Europe.

The software includes several features that are unprecedented in applications for Palm handhelds. When viewing files on a handheld screen, PhotoSuite Mobile Edition provides the ability to pan and zoom into photos to achieve more detail and clarity. Users can also organize images and video clips into thumbnail albums for quick and easy retrieval of the required files. Single images or entire albums can be 'beamed' to other devices without losing quality, retaining all the essential color and image information even when beamed between grayscale and color screen units. The application supports a wide range of file formats (JPG, PNG, TIF, BMP, GIF, AVI, WMV and MOV) and features 30 frames per second (fps) video playback, video pause and single-frame advance and rewind.

"Producers, actors or anyone involved in movies will find PhotoSuite Mobile Edition ideal for presenting film clips, scenes or slide-shows while on the move, or for sharing portfolios with other Palm handheld users," said Anthony DeCristofaro, MGI president and chief executive officer.

MGI received the Innovative Digital Product Award for PhotoSuite Mobile Edition at this year's PMA (Photo Marketing Association Convention and Trade Show), awarded by the Digital Imaging Marketing Association.
