Could this be the ultimate lens carrying solution?

If you’re looking for a new way to keep your lenses nearby when you’re out shooting, Peak Design’s newest products might be just what you’re looking for.

In collaboration with their ongoing Kickstarter campaign for ‘The Everyday Messenger’ camera bag, Peak Design has announced the CaptureLENS and Lens Kit, two new products they deem to be ‘the best camera lens carry and quick-change system ever made.’

Launching exclusively on Kickstarter, like almost all of Peak Design’s other products, these two new devices use Peak Design’s clever Capture clip to mount and hold Canon (EF and EF-S-mounts), Nikon (F-mount) and Sony (E and EF-mounts) lenses not currently being used.

The premise is fairly straightforward. Rather than having to keep your lenses in a bag, where they aren’t exactly easy to reach, the CaptureLENS and accompanying Lens Kit let you mount your lenses directly to an attachment that securely mounts into Peak Design’s Capture clip. In addition to saving time, this product also eliminates the hassle of rear lens caps, which seem to go missing all too often.

As for why Peak Design chose Canon, Nikon and Sony mounting systems, they say:

We chose these 3 mounts because they are the 3 most popular lens types that our Kickstarter backers and customers use (we’ve done several big surveys on this over the past year). Notable mounts that we do not currently support are Sony A-mount and Micro 4/3. In the perfect world we’d support everything, but we gotta draw the line somewhere.

Don’t lose all hope though, Peak Design says if they get enough customer feedback, they may very well consider more mounts in the future.

Unlike other lens-carrying solutions on the market, this one stands out for the fact it doesn’t offer a great deal of protection. Companies such as ThinkTank offer lens pouches, which at least add at least a little bit of protection in the form of fabric or padding, but access isn’t nearly as simple and you still have to deal with the lens cap-swapping.

It might not be a universal solution, but for those who carry just a few smaller lenses, and especially those already familiar with Peak Design products, the CaptureLENS and Lens Kit are great solutions to keep lenses nearby.

Getting your hands on one isn’t as straightforward as you might hope. Rather than setting up a second Kickstarter campaign, Peak Design has included these two new products in ‘The Everyday Messenger’ camera bag that’s broken all kinds of records for its success.

To purchase the CaptureLENS and Lens Kit, you must first be a backer of the messenger bag. If you aren’t, you must first back ‘The Everyday Messenger’ campaign with a pledge of at least $30, which will get you the Peak Design Field Pouch. Once you’ve backed the main campaign at some level, you must then add more to your pledge.

For the CaptureLENS, which includes the Capture clip and Lens Kit adapter, you need to add $80 more to your pledge. For the Lens Kit only, which will work if you already own a Peak Design Capture clip, you must add $40.

By pre-ordering, you will be saving $10 off future retail for both the CaptureLENS and Lens Kit.
