Olympus' new products

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II
  • Olympus E-M1 Mark II: A new flagship model for the OM-D line, claimed to "exceed APS-C cameras in overall value"

    • New 20-megapixel Live MOS sensor, not the same one Panasonic is using. Optimized for low power consumption, much higher-speed data readout, much better noise performance and dynamic range. Noise performance improved by one stop. 50 megapixel High Res Shot mode can compensate for moving subjects.

    • TruePic VIII image processor, double quad-core design. One core is dedicated to AF, and the other to image processing.

    • New high-speed, high-precision autofocus system. 18 fps in full-res raw with continuous autofocus active. (!) 75% vertical and 80% horizontal coverage, all 121 AF points are cross-types. Uses all focus points in every shooting mode, all of the time. Uprated subject tracking can better handle background and subject with similar texture.

    • 60 fps full-res raw burst shooting with autofocus locked from the first frame

    • 50% faster startup time

    • 3x faster internal data writing speed and 2x more raw buffer capacity

    • New Synchronous Image Stabilization system has a claimed 6.5 EV corrective ability.

    • Pro Capture function captures up to 14 full-res (and optionally, raw) frames immediately after shutter button is half-pressed, these and final image are saved as soon as shutter button is fully pressed.

    • 120 fps EVF with lag of just six milliseconds. Olympus is suggesting some pros who were shown pre-production units thought it was an optical viewfinder, not an EVF.

    • Dustproof, splashproof, freezeproof design.

    • New, higher-capacity battery and significantly faster charging.

    • New grip works better when shooting with longer lenses.

    • Dual SD card slots, UHS-II compatibility.

    • 30p Cinema 4K footage at 237Mbps straight out of the camera

    • Super-bright, super-fast 25mm f/1.2 PRO lens. Dust, splash and freezeproof.

    • 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO, their first professional 8.3x zoom. 1/5cm closeup performance, Sync IS tech for 6.5 EV shake compensation. Also weatherproof.
