very fast, sharp, gorgeous background blur, world class lens
At around $900 US very good price for quality... no IS. It is so sharp it makes you rethink the use of your zoom lenses.

This is a stunning lens, clearly one of the very best lenses that Canon produces, this is in the same world class as the 35 1.4, 85 1.2 L lenses. At $900 US it a relative steal. In photoshop I love to zoom 200, 300 and even 400% to see the extreme details it is an absolutely amazing lens, great backround blur, great for low light weddings with available light. Amazing for portraits, easily fast enough for indoor sports. With this lens you don't need to do much if any post processing. If you can afford it buy this lens, you will love it. The only thing that could possibly make this better would be to add IS.
A con is that it really makes you rethink the use of your zoom lenses.
Oh yes, and it leads to lusting after other primes!

World class sharpness, low light ability, excellent background blur.
price... but you get what you pay for

    Really draws in the light.
    Excellent in low light applications.
Phenominal background blur, this is a specialized tool, you may have to practice a bit because the depth of field is razor thin, when you master this lens it produces amazing images. Rent it first to see if it is for you.

  • Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

2.8, sharp images, very useful range and it is a workhorse
    Wish it had IS

This lens is a workhorse in wedding photography and portraits. Of course it is not sharp as prime lenses, but it is a very versitile and useful lens. 2.8 is great for wedding ceremonies and receptions, a 2.8 with IS would be only better. Great color and contrast.
Highly recommended along with the 70-200 2.8 IS for wedding, portraits and sports.
This lens would be a dream with the IS feature, Canon are you listening?

  • Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM

10 out of 10 points and recommended
    Crisp, sharp images
none, expensive, but pays for itself with great images!

    I love this lens!
Great for low light wedding work, makes me think of ditching my 24-70 2.8.
The 35 lens has much more sharpness and detail.
I often use it for wedding and portrait shots... especially in the dark reception halls.
Beautiful colors, sharp, one of Canons finest lenses.
    My other favorites:
    85 1.2
    135
    200 1.8
If you must rent one, before you buy.
    I'll never sell this lens!

    Sharper than a razor
Takes time to learn how to use this beast

This lens is a beast almost 13 pounds.
You will have to take the time to learn how to use this lens effectively.
Once you master this lens it is stunning, yes, even at 2.8.

Sharp, crisp, rich detail and color!

There is a reason you see this lens at the sidelines of every major sporting event, it does not get any better at this length.
Add a 2x extender and you have a pretty good 800.
Beg, borrow, or rent one if you can, once you use one it tends to spoil you.

Yes it is heavy, but so what?

It is what it is, one of the finest lenses on the planet earth!

    Pretty good lens
    could be better wide open

Hey for the price it's pretty good!
Soft wide open on my copy.
A bit slow to focus, but it is light weight and overall its really a pretty good lens.
I enjoy it and produce some good low light images with it, but I have high hopes for the 1.2.

  • Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM

10 out of 10 points and recommended
    Crisp, sharp images
    None

    Best zoom I have.
I use this for portraits, excellent for when I have kids zooming around and a prime (me) can't keep up with the little buggers!
Produses excellent images, and is fun to use.
Also use this at weddings when there is enough light.
    Excellent images.
I would buy this zoom again with no hesitation!
