  • Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED VR II DX AF-S Nikkor

6 out of 10 points and not recommended
good vr, very useful zoom range, quick focus, little sharper at center than vr I
still zoom creep. very soft at edges

Definitely not a successful replacement for Vr I edition.

Very soft at edges (maybe mine had a problem?)

Zoom lock doesn't help much at 18mm, eitherway the lens doesn't have any creep there.

I was very pleased with my Vr I edition and i regret for it;s sale....maybe it was softer but it was decent at all frame.

  • Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR AF-S Nikkor

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Image quality for such a big zoom range, perfect travel lens, solid construction, Good VR
Heavy, mediocre bokeh, zoom creep, distortion, CA, slow lens and slow focus somethimes.

Exceptional image quality for such a big zoom, even at 300, at f8 of course. Times better than its little brother 18-200 DX

Bokeh not for my taste and only from 200mm and upwards. Very heavy, so it's not a gift for everyday shooting. Vr is good and trustful. Sometimes slow focus may appear but not something terrible. Zoom creep is a problem

If you have FX camera, want perfect IQ travel lens and you can bare the 1100$ hit the road to the first store. For DX users i would think the other brands also as a alternative, they are cheaper and have also exceptional quality.

  • Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp!, Good close up, OS working well, light and small, price!
    Compatibility problems, creep when unlocked.

Very quality lens, half the price of the similar nikon model. Very good sharpness at F8-F11, at almost all focal lengths. Small and light, OS is working well.

Compatibility problems with the new nikon bodies. I had to turn the lens in the dealer, in order to update the firmware of the lens, because OS and auto focus were not working, the second on live view only. That, in my opinion is a little inconvenient for the customer, who also as i understood must update all of his sigma lenses in order to work properly with new nikon bodies. How sad is that.

Go buy it without a second thought, this lens is amazing, the best travel lens out there at this time. Just check if it has the new firmware from box. Sigma announced that new deliveries will have it with a specific sticker on box.

Shaaarp!!! Very usefull focal length, fast, Bokeh at 20mm!!
weight, expensive, lots of vignetting at 1.4

A tack sharp lens from 1.4 with bokeh to fall in love and very usefull focal lenght for lots of situations and applications. It has become my favorite lens. Go try one if you can, you will be surprised with the results. Incredible work from Sigma
