DSC-U10 will ship next month in Japan...

You heard it here first: Sony Japan has today announced a tiny new ultracompact digital camera model slated to ship from July 20th, 2002 in that country. The Sony Cyber-shot U DSC-U10 features a 1.3 megapixel CCD imager, 33mm-equivalent autofocus lens, 1-inch LCD display and Memory Stick storage. Three different body colors are available - Platinum Silver, Metallic Blue and Pearlescent Pink. Available accessories include a choice of soft cases in different styles, which feature clips to attach them to a bag or neck-strap, and pockets for Memory Stick media cards.

Pricing has not been officially announced, but is rumored in a report from Yamada Kumio at the digitalcamera.jp website to be about ¥25,000 (US$209 / €212 / £137 ignoring tax, duties and exchange rate fluctuations). Specifications courtesy of Sony follow:
