SanDisk Introduces New Line of Digital Film Cards
High-Performance Line of CompactFlash and SD Cards Offers Extended Temperature Range For Shooting In Harsh Conditions
LAS VEGAS, NV March 3, 2003 - SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today announced SanDisk Extreme(tm), a comprehensive line of high-performance CompactFlash and SD cards designed to meet performance levels dictated by professional and "prosumer" digital photographers including the ability to withstand a wide range of temperature extremes. The announcement was made at the Photo Marketing Association trade show where SanDisk is showing its products in booth L-70.
Sold exclusively through photo retail channels, the new SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash® cards deliver a sustained write speed of up to 6 megabyte (MB) per second and sustained read speed of 9MB/sec. The 1GB SanDisk Extreme card is the fastest and largest capacity Type I CompactFlash card. SanDisk Extreme SD® cards provide sustained write speeds of up to 2.5MB/sec. In addition, Extreme cards are designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -25 to 85 degrees Celsius, making them ideal for harsh shooting environments and punishing conditions such as when they are stored next to hot camera lights.
Nelson Chan, senior vice president and general manager of SanDisk's retail business unit, said, "SanDisk has leveraged its long history of producing highly reliable storage cards to develop the Extreme line, which represent a combination of high performance and wide operating temperature range to meet the unique needs of the serious photographer. Since these photographers typically purchase their equipment at photo retailers, we have made the SanDisk Extreme product line exclusive to this channel."
Should the need occur, each SanDisk Extreme card is bundled with a data recovery software application designed to recover hidden, deleted and lost digital images. In addition, each card is backed by a lifetime warranty.
SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash will initially ship in capacities of 256, 512MB and 1 gigabyte, with street prices of $99, $189 and $379 respectively. SanDisk Extreme SD cards will be available in 256 and 512MB capacities with a street price $109 and $219 respectively. Both card formats are expected to start shipping in Q2 2003.
SanDisk Extreme cards use SanDisk NAND flash technology and highlight the company's ongoing commitment to continued improvements in speed, capacity, reliability and features for storage cards. SanDisk Extreme cards are designed for compatibility with today's leading CF and SD-approved digital SLRs, video and still cameras, card readers and electronic devices.
