PRESS RELEASE: Visioneer Acquires JFL Peripheral Solutions and Appoints Jon Harju as Senior Vice President of Engineering; JFL Peripheral Solutions and Visioneer Combine Expertise to Integrate Industry Standards into Document Imaging Services

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 2005--Visioneer Inc., a leader in intelligent imaging solutions, today announced that it has acquired JFL Peripheral Solutions, the leading independent provider of scanner driver development services and products. JFL Peripheral Solutions will strengthen Visioneer's imaging solutions by adding intellectual property, including its unique engineering tools and custom software development. Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, JFL will continue to provide services to some of the world's leading document management hardware and software companies. Visioneer intends to leverage Harju's expertise to further develop driver quality and to fund JFL's expansion of engineering services to document imaging clients.

Jon Harju, President and founder of JFL Peripheral Solutions, Inc., has accepted the position of Senior Vice President of Engineering at Visioneer. First exposed to scanning while working at Corel, Harju was hired to work on the popular Corel SCSI product. He became responsible for a line of TWAIN Driver dubbed "CorelTWAIN" that shipped with the product and supported 30 different models from 11 different manufacturers. These drivers were known to be more robust and feature rich than those provided by the very manufacturers themselves. Due to this reputation, these drivers outlived the SCSI product line. Harju continued the tradition of developing feature rich TWAIN Drivers as President & CEO of J.F.L. Peripheral Solutions Inc since 1996.

Harju has developed a solid reputation for answering questions and helping other developers that were struggling with many of the same issues that frustrated him. This activity caught the attention of the TWAIN Working Group who, in recognition of his growing expertise, approached him to sit on the Board of Directors and participate in the combined efforts of the most influential document imaging companies of the day to overhaul TWAIN, take it out of the consumer space and make it more appropriate for business and industrial oriented applications.

"We are simply delighted that this partnership enables JFL to concentrate on expanding its engineering services while Visioneer provides financing and back-office administrative support," said Harju.

Harju continues to serve on the board of directors of the TWAIN Working Group in the position of Co-Chair, and he still answers questions on the TWAIN mailing list.

J.F.L. Peripheral Solutions Inc. has been working since 1996 to dispel the myth that TWAIN is an unsuitable protocol for business scanners and applications. JFL has written and consulted on industrial TWAIN drivers and Application scanning front ends for some of the highest speed and highest volume scanner manufacturers and software providers in the industry. JFL's customer list spans the business with such companies as AnyDoc Software, Bowe Bell & Howell, Fujitsu, Kofax, Konica Minolta and Xerox.

Visioneer will finance JFL and allow the company to operate "business as usual." Visioneer is not privy to information for which JFL has signed non-disclosures and will not interfere with JFL's existing or future business.

Visioneer's high-performance business scanners and imaging software solutions have always offered business users speed, quality, and advanced paper handling options. In 2003, Visioneer combined its leading scanner technology with the Xerox brand recognition to develop the Xerox DocuMate series of workgroup scanners. In 2004 and again in 2005, the Xerox DocuMate 252 and DocuMate 272, respectively, were ranked by AIIM as best desktop document scanner. In 2005 the Xerox DocuMate 262 was given an Editors' Choice Award from PC Magazine for its price/performance, ease-of-use and best document management software.
