Altek invests in metal stamping lines

A news article posted on Taiwan's DigiTimes Systems website reports that OEM / ODM company Altek will soon be able to manufacture metal bodies for digicams in-house.

According to DigiTimes, Altek is planning to invest in metal stamping lines with which to prepare the bodies, which the company currently has to source from a third party. By producing the metal casings in-house, Altek would be able to reduce production costs - ensuring the company could offer competitive pricing as Japanese digicam vendors increase their OEM / ODM orders in today's ultra-competitive digicam marketplace.

Altek is amongst the top four makers of digital cameras in Taiwan. As another part of its effort to reduce costs, the company recently began producing its own digicam lens kits in mainland China, in cooperation with Kinko Optical.

More info can be found in the DigiTimes article.
