ADOBE.GIF Chan Discusses New Adobe DNG Profile Editor
By Mike Pasini, The Imaging Resource
(Monday, August 4, 2008 - 11:40 EDT)

The developer of Lightroom 2's new camera profiles and the editor that lets you build your own reveals all.

"Do you find deep reds becoming orange-ish and undersaturated?," Adobe Computer Scientist Eric Chan asks. "Is it challenging to nail colors under specific lighting conditions, like when doing a product shoot? Do you love our tools but prefer the colors from another raw converter (or from the in-camera JPEG preview)? Have you tried fiddling with the Calibration sliders (or cursed them because they don't provide enough control)?"

If you're no stranger to those questions, you'll want to read Chan's guest entry on John Nack's blog. Because, as Chan says, "we've produced a comprehensive and highly versatile solution that addresses all of these issues."

The entry explains why the profiles and editor are not included with the Lightroom 2 distribution, how the DNG 1.2 specification fits into this puzzle, details the new profiles and the extended profile format, explains the new profile editor and finally points you to the extensive documentation and tutorials.
