We reviewed Velbon's lightweight Velbon MAXi tripods seven years ago. When it came time to replace a part under the lifetime warranty, we had quite an adventure.

We reviewed Velbon's lightweight Velbon MAXi tripods seven years ago. Favorably, too.

That's because it was pretty much exactly what Popular Photography's Herbert Keppler had specified as the requirements for "the perfect SLR travel tripod" years ago: "all metal, weight under two pounds, folded size under 20 inches [so it can be stored easily in airline carry-on luggage], eye-level height, quick extending and folding via flip locks, rubber tips and spiked points on independently adjustable legs that can level the tripod on irregular surfaces."

But recently, when it came time to replace a part under the lifetime warranty, we had quite an adventure.

Read the update to see how it all turned out.
