Camera Modes and Menus

Playback Mode: Marked on the Mode dial with the traditional green playback symbol, this mode allows the user to review captured images on the SmartMedia card. Images can be deleted, protected, enlarged, set up for printing, or viewed as an index. Pressing the Menu / OK button displays the following options:

  • Back: Exits the menu system.
  • Erase: Deletes single images or all images from the SmartMedia card (except for write-protected ones). There's also an option to Format the SmartMedia card, which erases all images, even those with write-protection.
  • Protect: Assigns write-protection to all images or a single image, which prevents accidental erasure (except from card formatting). There's also an option to Unprotect All images.
  • DPOF: Marks a single frame or all frames for printing on a DPOF device. A Date/Time option specifies whether or not the date and time print over the image.

Record Mode: The red camera icon on the Mode dial indicates Record mode, which allows the camera to capture digital images. Pressing the Menu / OK button pulls up the Record settings menu:

  • Flash: Places the flash into Auto, Red-Eye Reduction, Forced, Suppressed, or Slow Synchro operating modes.
  • Continuous Shooting: Turns Continuous Shooting mode on or off (Auto mode only).
  • Self-Timer: Activates or deactivates the self-timer (Auto mode only).
  • Exposure Mode: Puts the camera in Automatic or Manual exposure mode. If Manual is selected, the following menu items become available:
    • Exposure Compensation: Adjusts the overall exposure from -0.9 to +1.5 exposure equivalents (EV) in one-third-step increments.
    • White Balance: Adjusts the overall color balance to match a specific light source. Options are Automatic, Outdoors, Cloudy, Daylight Fluorescent, Warm White Fluorescent, Cool White Fluorescent, and Incandescent.

Setup Mode: Indicated on the Mode dial with the word "Set" in black letters, this mode immediately displays the Setup menu, which allows the user to alter various camera settings.

  • File Size / Quality: Changes the pixel resolution and JPEG compression level. Options are 1,600 x 1,200: Fine, Normal, and Basic; 1,280 x 960: Fine and Normal; and 640 x 480: Normal.
  • Beep: Turns off the camera's beep sound, or adjusts the volume to Low or High.
  • Date / Time: Sets the camera's internal calendar and clock.
  • Frame Number: Continues the frame numbering from one SmartMedia card to another, or Renews it with each new card.
  • Language: Changes the menu language to English or French.
