Overview
Following up on the Canon PowerShot ELPH 170 IS, the ELPH 190 IS delivers the same performance and slim, compact build for an affordable price.
Utilizing the same 20-megapixel CCD sensor as the ELPH 170 IS, the ELPH 190 IS actually takes a bit of focal length from the long end of the lens, reducing it from a 12x optical zoom to a 10x optical zoom. The 24-240mm equivalent lens has a maximum aperture range of f/3.0 to f/6.9. The lens does include image stabilization capabilities, unlike its less expensive sibling, the Canon ELPH 180.
The Canon ELPH 190 IS can record 720p HD video at 25 frames-per-second and includes Canon's Smart Auto mode, scene modes, and Eco mode to preserve battery life. Despite using the same NB-11-LH/NB-11L battery as the ELPH 180, the ELPH 190 IS has a slightly lower battery life of 190 shots due to its image stabilization. It also records images to an SD card.
Weighing 4.9 ounces (138 grams) and having dimensions of 3.8 x 2.2 x 0.9 inches (95 x 57 x 24 millimeters), the 190 IS is a very lightweight and compact camera. The body design remains similar to the ELPH 170 IS, including the same 2.7" rear display with approximately 230,400 dots of resolution.
Canon has added Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities to the ELPH 190 IS, something that the ELPH 170 IS notably lacked. The ELPH 190 IS now takes its place in Canon's lineup as the most affordable connected camera. An accompanying dedicated Wi-Fi button has been added to the camera body itself as well.
Available in February 2016 in black, red, and blue options for an estimated retail price of US$159.99, the Canon PowerShot ELPH 190 IS combines reliable performance and features in an ultra compact form factor.
