AstrHori has announced the MF 8mm F/2.4 Fisheye, a manual-focus lens for Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad XCD medium format cameras. Its headline feature is a claimed 220-degree field of view, extending beyond the 180-degree coverage typical of many fisheye lenses to deliver an unusual perspective for landscapes, architecture, astrophotography, and indoor scenes.
An Extreme 220-Degree Field of View
With its exceptionally wide field of view, the MF 8mm F/2.4 Fisheye is designed to capture more of the surrounding environment than conventional ultra-wide-angle lenses. Its 220-degree coverage can even include areas behind the lens, creating a distinctive perspective suited to experimental compositions and immersive-looking images.
The lens has an aperture range of F/2.4 to F/16 and uses a 10-bladed diaphragm. Its optical construction consists of 10 elements in eight groups, including two high-refractive-index elements and two extra-low-dispersion (ED) elements intended to help control chromatic aberration across the expansive image area.
Manual Focus and Close-Focusing Capability
The MF 8mm F/2.4 Fisheye uses manual focus and can focus as close as 0.1 meters (3.9 inches). This short minimum focusing distance allows photographers to position the lens close to a subject, exaggerating its size and perspective while retaining the surrounding environment within the frame.
The lens features an all-metal body. The Fujifilm GFX version weighs 511 grams (18 ounces) and measures 62mm long, while the Hasselblad XCD version weighs 536 grams (18.9 ounces) and measures 65mm long.
As with many fisheye lenses, the bulbous front element prevents the use of conventional front-mounted filters.
Pricing and Availability
The AstrHori MF 8mm F/2.4 Fisheye is priced at $398 and is available through Amazon. It is offered in mounts for Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad XCD medium format cameras.
