Pergear has introduced another affordable manual focus prime for mirrorless photographers with the launch of the 50mm F/1.4. Designed for full-frame cameras, the new lens is available for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Leica L mounts and is priced at just $116.10.
With its classic 50mm focal length and bright f/1.4 aperture, the new lens is aimed at photographers looking for an inexpensive everyday prime with a more characterful rendering than modern autofocus alternatives.
Compact Standard Prime for Everyday Photography
The Pergear 50mm F/1.4 is designed as a lightweight everyday carry lens. The standard focal length makes it suitable for a wide range of subjects, including portraits, street photography, documentary work, travel, and general everyday shooting.
Its bright f/1.4 maximum aperture also makes it a practical option for available-light photography while providing shallow depth of field for subject isolation.
Simple Optical Design With Character
Optically, the lens features six elements arranged in six groups. Pergear says the design delivers high light transmission and natural-looking images while maintaining a compact form factor.
The lens incorporates an anti-reflective coating to help suppress flare and ghosting, improving contrast and color reproduction when shooting in challenging lighting conditions.
A 12-blade aperture diaphragm is designed to produce smooth out-of-focus backgrounds while also creating attractive sunstars when the lens is stopped down.
Rather than pursuing maximum sharpness, Pergear says the lens embraces a more classic rendering style. The company even describes its out-of-focus rendering as having āfish-scale bokeh,ā giving images a distinctive character that may appeal to photographers looking for a less clinical look.
Fully Manual Operation
Like Pergearās other affordable primes, the 50mm F/1.4 is entirely manual focus.
The lens features a diamond-knurled focusing ring designed to provide precise control and a well-damped focusing feel. It can focus as close as 0.6 meters, allowing users to capture tighter compositions and environmental portraits.
A clicked aperture ring provides tactile feedback when changing exposure settings.
Lightweight Metal Construction
Despite its low price, the lens features an all-metal barrel, giving it a solid feel while remaining easy to carry.
The lens measures 43.5mm in length and weighs just 255 grams, making it a compact companion for everyday shooting. It also accepts standard 52mm front filters, making it easy to pair with commonly available accessories.
Pricing and Availability
The Pergear 50mm F/1.4 is available now through the Pergear online store for $116.10 and on Amazon. The lens is offered in Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Leica L mounts for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
