Sony has reportedly resumed shipments of its FX5 cinema camera, with customers in Europe already receiving their units. North American deliveries could follow as early as November 8 or 9, potentially ending the months-long wait for the camera.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors, European customers have started receiving the FX5 ahead of the November 16 availability date previously listed by German retailers Foto Koch and Foto Erhardt. The publication also shared an unboxing video and photographs of the camera from a customer in Germany.
In a separate report, Sony Alpha Rumors cited a reliable source claiming that North American retailers will begin shipping the FX5 on November 8 or 9. If accurate, this would put deliveries ahead of the mid-November availability estimate still listed by some retailers.

Sony FX5 Shipments Resume After Production Delays
The FX5’s delayed release has attracted considerable attention since the camera was announced on July 22, 2026. It features a 16.6-megapixel full-frame Exmor RS stacked CMOS sensor and Sony’s BIONZ XR2 image processor. The camera also supports 5K Open Gate recording and internal 16-bit X-OCN RAW.
Sony originally expected the FX5 to begin shipping in mid-August 2026. However, the company subsequently pushed deliveries back to mid-September in the US, reportedly because of quality control concerns.
In mid-September, Sony Japan issued a statement addressing the delay. The company said the camera’s release had been postponed due to production-related circumstances. The launch of related FX5 accessories was also delayed.
Sony did not provide further details about the production issues.

Reports of an LCD Screen Issue Raised Concerns
Although Sony never confirmed the specific reason for the delay, early users reported a potential issue with the FX5’s LCD screen. According to these reports, the display could shift out of its intended position, leaving a gap large enough to expose some of the camera’s internal electronic components.
Reports indicated that multiple units were affected by the same problem, raising concerns about the camera’s build quality.
However, the LCD issue has not been confirmed as the reason behind Sony’s production delay. With cameras now reportedly reaching customers in Europe, it is possible that the company has addressed the underlying production concerns, although Sony has not publicly confirmed this.
North American buyers may not have to wait much longer, with shipments reportedly expected to begin November 8 or 9.
Pricing and Availability
The Sony FX5 is priced at $4,898 and is available for preorder from B&H Photo. The retailer currently lists expected availability for mid-November 2026.
