Sony may not be finished with its 2026 camera announcements just yet. Following the launch of the flagship Sony A7R VI, a new report suggests that the company has registered another camera model in Indonesia.

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony recently registered a new camera under the code ā€œWW308784.ā€ The device was classified as a ā€œDigital Camera,ā€ which could offer some clues about what Sony has in development.

A Fixed-Lens Camera?

The registration listing reportedly identifies the product as a digital camera rather than an interchangeable-lens camera. Sony typically registers E-mount models under a separate ā€œInterchangeable Lens Digital Cameraā€ category.

If the classification is accurate, it suggests the new model could be a fixed-lens camera rather than a mirrorless interchangeable-lens system.

An additional detail that has attracted attention is the camera’s reported manufacturing location. The registration indicates that the model is being produced in China, despite Sony shifting much of its camera production to Thailand in recent years.

Most Sony cameras sold in North America, Europe, and other international markets are now manufactured in Thailand, including many of the company’s higher-end products. Sony’s Chinese facilities primarily serve the domestic market.

Registration Was Quickly Removed

Interestingly, the registration reportedly disappeared from the database just a few days after it was discovered.

While registration removals are not unheard of, they often generate additional speculation about upcoming products and launch timelines.

Could This Be the RX100 VIII?

Sony Alpha Rumors believes the most likely candidate is the long-rumored Sony RX100 VIII.

The theory makes sense given the age of the current model. Sony introduced the RX100 VII in August 2019, meaning the premium compact camera line is approaching seven years without a major update.

The compact camera segment has seen renewed interest in recent years. Cameras such as the Ricoh GR IV and Fujifilm X100VI continue to generate strong demand, showing that there is still a healthy market for premium fixed-lens cameras.

A new RX100 VIII could give Sony an opportunity to compete directly with some of the most sought-after compact cameras currently available.

Sony has also shown that it is willing to leave long gaps between generations. The RX1R III, released last year, arrived roughly a decade after the RX1R II, demonstrating that long product cycles are not unusual for the company.

A New ZV Camera Is Also Possible

Another possibility is that the registration belongs to a new ZV-series camera.

Sony’s creator-focused lineup has become increasingly important for the company, with cameras such as the ZV-E10 II proving popular among content creators and videographers. Released in July 2024, the ZV-E10 II has established itself as an affordable alternative to cameras like the Sony A6700 and FX30.

Given Sony’s typical product refresh cycles, a successor or related model would not be entirely surprising.

Other Sony Cameras Still Awaiting Announcement

Sony is rumored to release the FX3 II soon.

The newly discovered registration is not the only unreleased Sony camera currently on the rumor radar.

A camera carrying the code ā€œWW679475ā€ was reportedly registered in China on April 24 and is widely believed to be the successor to the Sony FX3, potentially arriving as the FX3 II.

Another registered model, identified as ā€œWW721795,ā€ is rumored to be either the Sony A6900 or a second-generation ZV-E1. Reports suggest the camera lacks Wi-Fi 6 support and uses Sony’s NP-FZ100 battery, which could indicate a mid-range or entry-level positioning within the lineup.

For Now, It’s All Speculation

At this stage, Sony has not officially announced or teased any of these cameras. Registration filings often provide an early glimpse into upcoming products, but they do not guarantee specifications, launch dates, or final product names.
