Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
7 out of 10 points and recommendedVery nice image quality, good working distanceslow focus, low contrastThe only other macro lens I've had to compare it to is the 60mm Micro Nikkor which is the sharpest lens I've ever seen. The Canon isn't as sharp, doesn't and have the internal contrast of the Nikkor. It's image quality is nice but soft looking. The focus is slow and iffy especially compared to USM lenses

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
8 out of 10 points and recommendedVery sharp, light and fast.cheesy feelAt the price this lens is a must have. It's fast enough to use for available light and probably as sharp as any lens Canon makes. You just have to get over it's cheesy plastic feel and trust it to take sharp contrasty photos.
