Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
9 out of 10 points and recommendedSharp, great colors, fast AF, lightweight, great buildf4 a bit slow indoors with no flashBought this for my 20D and 30 (film) - needed full frame for the latter and am pleased to have done so rather than the EF-S 17-55 which was my second choice. Lack of IS is no problem in this focal length range, build quality is so much better with the L.

Image quality is excellent - sharper than other lenses in this range that I had tried. Sharpness and colors both superb.
This lens stays on camera for 75% of the time, a real keeper. -
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
6 out of 10 points and not recommendedLightweight, ISBuild quality poorUseful FL range on 20D and FF EOS 30 (film). Lightweight with useful IS function. Picture quality not bad, but not outstanding. I sold this lens though - build quality is poor, very plastic, lots of play in the extended barrel and this made it less than a pleasure to use. Replaced it with a 24-105 f4 L (more expensive but, IMHO, worth it!).

Sigma 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Aspherical IF Macro
5 out of 10 points and recommendedPrice, build qualityNoisy AF, image qualityIt's a good travel lens for a FF film EOS (the reason I bought it) and it's just about OK with a 20D if you need the FL range and can only carry one lens. Wouldn't pay more than $120 these days, though, and there are better lenses out there.
