Call for entries: July 4th Photo of the Day contest

The fourth of July is fast approaching. For those of us in the United States, that means it'll soon be time for fireworks, parades, carnivals, barbecues, and many other Independence Day staples. For Americans living--or perhaps serving--overseas, thoughts of family and homeland will be front of mind.

July 4th also means it's time for something a little special in our Photo of the Day contest. Each year, we ask for entries suited to the day. There's no rigid theme: over the years, we've had everything from the fireworks and flag shots you'd expect to rather more tangentially-related shots. (If you're taking the latter route, let's just say that a little splash of red, white and blue--as in Mike DiRenzo's shot below--doesn't hurt, though.) ;-)

So... what are you waiting for? Get digging through your archives, and send in your favorite shots that capture the spirit of the fourth! (And to get your creative juices flowing, following are a few examples of July 4th Photos of the Day from our archives...)
