Samyang looks ready to announce, well, something about lenses this Friday, March 21, and the rumor mill is churning hard, trying to figure out exactly what it’s going to be.

Most of the photo world's cloak-and-dagger sites have come to their own conclusions, but the speculation is largely centered around autofocus, which would be a first for Samyang. The company is known for lenses with excellent optical quality at a fair price, but only with manual focus. Other guesses include a new 50mm f/1.2, or perhaps a 35mm autofocus unit.

The peanut gallery at Sony Alpha Rumors is especially excited, since Samyang is the only third-party manufacturer currently grinding glass for A-mount and E-mount cameras, including the A7 and A7R (and Sony itself isn’t introducing new native lenses at a pace that's satisfactory for many adopters).

The good news is that we won’t have to wait very long to find out what exactly Samyang has up its sleeves—hopefully it's something with an ultrasonic motor.
