Well, I love this lens, although I don't use it too often any more since I have a 14mm 2.8. I have my second copy of this lens currently and both were very sharp. Only problem I have with the lens is that the barrel is plastic and as I recall there's only like 4 screws that hold it to the metal mount...You might be wondering why I know this. Well, my camera/tripod fell over on varied terrain when a gust of wind hit it. The lens broke right off leaving the mount still on the camera.

A couple of years ago I picked up a non IS 300 2.8l. I love this l ens a lot. I rented one some years back, so I knew I could get by without IS. The person I bought it from worked for a newspaper, so this thing has been used a lot, but is in good condition. Focuse s fast, really sharp, and fun to shoot with. It is one heavy SOB!

I like Canon "L" lenses a lot, but there are some times where finding bargains is a good way to go. The Sigma 14mm 2.8 is a really nice lens. It's solid and pretty heavy, image quality is quite good, and it's just Wiiiiiiidddddeeeee! It doesn't focus super fast (not needed for a lens like this) and with the rounded lens, you can't put a filter on to prot ect the glass (be careful!), and lens flare is easy to achieve (the positive spin ).

I use the lens at least as much as anything else in my bag as I love the perspective.

Rented a 45 and didn't like the image quality. This lense was considerably better and tack sharp when not tilted/shifted.
