Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M6 chip, bringing improved CPU and graphics performance, faster wireless connectivity, and enhanced on-device AI capabilities. The laptop also offers up to 24 hours of battery life, which Apple says is the longest of any Mac to date.
The new model retains the Liquid Retina XDR display and familiar design of the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro, while upgrading its internal hardware. It is aimed at students, business professionals, and creators who need a portable computer for demanding workloads.
“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level, with a boost in CPU speed and graphics and even more powerful capabilities for on-device AI.”
M6 Chip Brings Faster Graphics and AI Performance
The M6 is built using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process and features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU. The chip made its debut in the Mac mini earlier this year before arriving in the MacBook Pro.
Apple says the M6 delivers up to 30% faster graphics performance and up to 25% faster on-device AI workloads compared with the previous-generation M5. The GPU includes Neural Accelerators in each core, while a Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides additional processing power for AI tasks.
The updated chip is designed to accelerate demanding workflows such as photo editing, 3D rendering, software development, and running large language models locally. Apple also highlights improvements in single-threaded and multithreaded CPU performance, although it has not provided a single overall performance figure for every type of workload.
Unified Memory and Storage
The new MacBook Pro starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s on the 24GB and 32GB configurations, while the base 16GB model offers 153GB/s.
These improvements should help the laptop handle larger projects and multiple demanding applications more efficiently. The standard configuration includes a 1TB SSD, with additional storage options available.
Up to 24 Hours of Battery Life
Apple claims the new 14-inch MacBook Pro can run for up to 24 hours on a charge, making it the longest-lasting Mac in the company’s lineup according to its testing.
The laptop supports fast charging, reaching up to 50% battery capacity in approximately 30 minutes when connected to a compatible high-wattage USB-C power adapter, such as Apple’s 96W adapter.
The combination of the M6 chip’s performance-per-watt improvements and the laptop’s battery capacity is intended to provide consistent performance whether connected to power or running on battery.
Liquid Retina XDR Display and Nano-Texture Option
The 14-inch MacBook Pro retains its Liquid Retina XDR display, which offers up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
Apple also continues to offer an optional nano-texture display designed to reduce reflections and glare in bright or challenging lighting conditions. This could be useful for photographers and video editors working in environments where controlling ambient reflections is difficult.
The laptop also features a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.
Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thunderbolt 4
The updated MacBook Pro adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, offering faster wireless connectivity and improved reliability compared with previous models.
Physical connections include three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, MagSafe 3 charging, a UHS-II SDXC card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The laptop also supports up to two external displays.
For photographers, the built-in SDXC card slot remains particularly useful for transferring images directly from compatible memory cards without requiring a separate reader.
Pricing and Availability
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 in the United States for the configuration with 16GB of unified memory and a 1TB SSD. It is available in Space Black and Silver, with the nano-texture display option costing an additional $150.
Preorders begin October 28, 2026, at 10:10 a.m. Pacific Time, equivalent to 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time. The laptop is scheduled to arrive in stores and begin shipping to customers on November 6.
