Welcome to Imaging Resource's Live Photokina 2008 Tradeshow Coverage. Since 1950, the German city of Cologne has played host to Photokina - the world�s largest photography and imaging expo. Since the 1952 show, Photokina has been a biennial event, meaning that it takes place only once every two years. For 2008, Imaging Resource will have a four-man team on the show floor, bringing you on-the-spot videos of the hottest products. Our news team back home will also be providing a steady flow of coverage on all the latest announcements, ensuring readers are kept on top of what we're expecting to be a very busy show. Photokina 2008 looks set to be a very exciting event, so keep checking back throughout the show!

18:39 EDT - In the runup to the Photokina tradeshow, Fujifilm announced the latest iteration of its Super CCD image sensor design, dubbed Super CCD EXR.

With the flood of news happening at the time, the announcement somehow slipped between the cracks - a fact we've only just realized. 12:25 EDT - Japanese optics company Tokina Co. Ltd. and its US distributor THK Photo Products Inc. have some new products on display at Photokina.

Perhaps the most interesting is the upcoming Tokina AT-X 16.5-135mm f/3.5-5.6 DX zoom lens, slated for initial availability in Canon- and Nikon- mount variants. Offering a more generous wide angle than most competing models, the Tokina 16.5-135 will equate to roughly a 27-219mm equivalent lens for Canon 1.6x crop DSLRs, while on Nikon's 1.5x crop models it'll work out to around a 25-206mm equivalent... 19:27 EDT - The Eye-Fi WiFi SD card is one of the hottest products of the year. We've had one long before miniphotokina, relying on it for most of our digicam reviews. But at photokina the company greatly enhanced even our original version by offering several of its newer capabilities, previously only available at the time of purchase, for a modest annual service fee. So it seemed like a good time to review the Eye-Fi SD card, comparing it to recent WiFi digicams. Read our review for the details. 14:29 EDT - Two weeks ago Panasonic announced its first product for the new "Micro Four Thirds" system standard, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1.

Based around a 12.1 megapixel image sensor, the interchangeable lens Panasonic G1 offers a more compact package than even the smallest digital SLRs. The reduction in size comes thanks to the removal of the bulky mirror box, as specified by the Micro Four Thirds standard. 14:41 EDT - Yesterday, Hewlett Packard announced a new home printer with an intriguing feature: 13x19-inch printing. And we've got one here at miniphotokina. For $300 you get a printer than can handle anything from 4x6 prints to 13x19 posters via its USB connection or the built-in card reader. It has three input trays and a color LCD to preview images from your card. The ink system includes one black pigment cartridge and dyes for photo black, cyan, magenta, yellow.
