Leica Camera AG has released new firmware for its M-series rangefinder digital camera, the Leica M9.

Firmware version 1.138 for the Leica M9 includes a variety of improvements and bug fixes. Running the new firmware, the M9 should now offer more accurate automatic white balance when using power saving lamps and tungsten lighting. The new M9 firmware also improves compatibility with SDHC cards, although the company now solely recommends use of SanDisk's Extreme III-branded cards, rather than its previous lengthy list of brands and card types.

Issues that have been corrected include the camera automatically powering off while in playback mode or during menu usage, intermittent problems when switching between user profiles, and incorrect time display in the American format.

The firmware update, instructions for its application and more details on the changes made can be found on the Leica website.
