Fujifilm's X100 Black Limited Edition digital camera. Click for our Fuji X100 review! The Fujifilm X100 digital camera has proven pretty popular since it launched in March 2011. That's largely thanks to the combination of great image quality and its genuinely innovative hybrid viewfinder, but doubtless its handsome styling has played a part as well.

Celebrating the X100's first birthday, there's now a new variant of the camera available for a limited time, and to our eye at least, it's even more attractive.

The Fujifilm X100 Black Limited Edition is being sold in a short production run of just 10,000 units worldwide, and comes in a special presentation case with several extras beyond those included in the standard X100 product bundle. These accessories include a very traditional leather case with red lining, a 49mm Super EBC Fujinon protective filter, metal lens hood, and metal adapter ring. There's also an insert card confirming the production number and limited-edition nature of the camera, while the camera body itself carries a special serial number between 1 and 10,000.

As for the camera body itself, Fuji has clearly put some thought into the standard of finish, beyond simply changing the body color. The company's marketing materials note that it has eschewed sandblasting--typically used to hide manufacture imperfections--in production of the lens barrel, and has precision-machined concentric grooves into the surface of the shutter speed and exposure compensation dials for aesthetic effect.

Of course, you'll pay a premium price for the X100 Black Limited Edition. Standard pricing for the X100 is US$1,200, while the Black Limited kit runs US$1,700. We're sure collectors and X100 fans will be snapping them up, though. With only 10,000 units available worldwide, that begs a question. Yes, the Fuji X100 Black Limited Edition is now available, but for how long?

If you're planning to get one yourself, best do it quickly! For an even sweeter deal, our affiliate partner Adorama is offering the Fuji X100 Black kit at just $3 over retail price including free shipping, and they're throwing in a 16GB SD card, spare battery, and USB 2.0 card reader.

Still on the fence? The X100 is certainly not the camera for everyone, but as we note in our Fuji X100 review, for those of you willing to learn its quirks it represents an excellent choice; read the review for more.
