Throughout his career, American photojournalist Steve McCurry has been taken to a number of incredible destinations. But, as he shares in this three minute video, more often it’s the journey, not the destination that leads him to his best work.

Shared by Phaidon Press, the video uses footage from McCurry’s many journeys alongside his own narration to share words of wisdom that only decades of experience can truly provide you with. Specifically, McCurry shares that when on assignment, sometimes his most impressive work stems from simply stepping outside his hotel room. When that happen, he shares:

"Suddenly, a magical thing happens, where you start seeing pictures; you’re relaxed; you’re observant; you’re in almost a meditative state. And that’s when the good pictures come."

The short video is a wonderful look into the life of McCurry and the knowledge his extensive and impressive career has brought him.
