Samsung is looking to take the next step in reliable compact storage with two new memory card lineups, Pro Plus and EVO Pro.

Both lineups are available in MicroSD and SD form factors. Samsung’s Pro Plus memory cards come in 64GB and 32GB storage capacities, while the EVO lineup offers an additional 128GB option.

Also included in the new offerings is Samsung’s updated ‘5-proof’ features, which include waterproof, temperature proof, X-ray proof, magnetic proof and shock proof. The waterproof aspect, in particular, has improved dramatically, with cards now able to withstand being submerged in salt water up to 72 hours, a day improvement over previous iterations.

The difference between the two lineups is in performance levels.

Samsung’s new Pro Plus lineup are professional-grade memory cards designed for work with 4K video footage, DSLRs, smartphones and action cameras, such as the ubiquitous GoPro. The read/write speeds of the Pro Plus SD cards and MicroSD are 95MB/s and 90MB/s respectively.

The EVO lineup is for more casual consumers who want reliable storage at a competitive value. The read/write speeds of Samsung’s EVO SD cards and MicroSD are 80MB/s and 20MB/s respectively, a decent bump up

Samsung Pro Plus and EVO MicroSD and SD cards are set to go on sale within the end of the month. We will update this post as product pages hit the web.
