UPDATED 05/08/2017: Canon Philippines has removed the service advisory from their website. We will update again if/when there is further development on this issue.

Original Article:

Canon Philippines has published a service notice relating to the Canon EF 24-105 F/4 IS II USM. The alert states that some of the lenses have been found to have an autofocus malfunction, and the Canon.ph website has listed steps to determine if your lens is affected. Apparently, there are a few serial numbers that the company has identified that are most likely to have the malfunction, although note that the service notice does say that lenses in the stated serial numbers ranges "MAY POSSIBLY" be affected.

Below is a portion of the full note which you can read here:

We have determined that some EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lenses exhibit an AF operation-related malfunction. The details of the phenomenon and Canon’s service policy are described below.

We would like to offer our sincere apologies to users who have been inconvenienced by this issue. Going forward, we will spare no effort in our quality management to make sure our customers can use our products with confidence.

Phenomenon
At the wide-angle end, focus is not achieved properly when a peripheral AF points are selected, regardless of the AF area selection mode.

Affected Lenses
If the first two digits in the serial number (see the image below) of your lens are ”48”, ”49”, ”50” or ”51”, then your lens MAY POSSIBLY be affected.

Visit the Canon.ph website for more information and to access a tool to determine if your lens is affected. Oddly, we were unable to find this service alert on any other Canon website as of press time. We have reached out to Canon USA for more information.
