Apple Accidentally Lists the Nikon Z70 as an Authorized ProRes RAW Camera

Nikon has been relatively quiet in 2026 while Sony, Canon, Panasonic, and even Leica have introduced new cameras. That could be about to change, however, as Apple may have accidentally revealed the existence of an unannounced Nikon camera.
According to Nikon Rumors, Apple briefly listed the Nikon Z70 as an authorized product for Apple ProRes and ProRes RAW. There is currently no Z70 in Nikon’s lineup, making the listing particularly interesting. The camera has since been removed from Apple’s website, but not before the listing was spotted and reported.
Nikon Rumors believes the listing was more than just a typo and may have inadvertently revealed the name of an upcoming camera.
What We Know About the Nikon Z70 So Far
To be clear, Nikon has not announced a Z70, and there is no existing camera in its lineup that matches the name. The closest models are the Z7 and Z7 II, as well as the Z50 II, but none of these cameras support Apple ProRes or ProRes RAW internally.
That makes the Apple listing particularly intriguing. If the information was accurate, it suggests that the Z70 will be a new camera rather than a reference to an existing Nikon model.
Rumors have been pointing toward a new high-end APS-C camera from Nikon for some time. Nikon Rumors describes the upcoming model as a spiritual successor to the popular D500, with an emphasis on speed and performance.
The rumored camera is said to feature a 45-megapixel stacked APS-C sensor, which would make it one of the highest-resolution APS-C cameras on the market. It has also reportedly been described as a “mini Z9” or even a “mini ZR.”
If those comparisons are accurate, the Z70 could be aimed primarily at sports and wildlife photographers who want the reach and smaller form factor of APS-C without giving up the performance of Nikon’s flagship cameras.

A High-End APS-C Camera With ProRes RAW?
The possible ProRes support is perhaps the most interesting part of the Apple listing.
Apple’s ProRes and ProRes RAW formats are widely used in professional video production, and their inclusion would suggest that Nikon is positioning the Z70 as more than just a fast stills camera.
The camera could potentially offer significantly more advanced video capabilities than Nikon’s current APS-C models. The rumored stacked sensor and high-speed readout would also make sense for a camera designed around both fast stills and serious video recording.
The “mini Z9” comparison is particularly interesting because the Z9 uses an electronic shutter exclusively. If Nikon takes a similar approach with the Z70, it could mean an electronic-shutter-only design optimized for fast readout and high-speed shooting.
That would make sense for a modern successor to the D500, which was particularly popular among sports and wildlife photographers because of its speed, autofocus performance, and APS-C crop factor.
Why Apple Listing It Matters
The Apple listing doesn’t confirm any of the rumored specifications, but it does potentially give us something that previous rumors haven’t: a name.
Nikon Rumors has previously reported that it was uncertain what Nikon would call its upcoming high-end APS-C camera. The appearance of “Nikon Z70” on Apple’s website could indicate that the name has now been settled, although there is still no guarantee that Nikon will ultimately use it.
The timing is also interesting. Nikon Rumors expects the camera to be announced sometime between August and September, while Apple recently updated its list of cameras authorized for ProRes RAW.
If the Z70 really is coming, we may not have to wait much longer to find out.

Nikon Could Finally Have a High-End APS-C Camera Again
Nikon has not had a true high-end APS-C successor to the D500 since the DSLR was discontinued. The Z50 series fills the entry-level and mid-range APS-C space, but there isn’t currently a Z-mount equivalent aimed squarely at professional sports and wildlife photographers.
A fast, high-resolution APS-C camera could fill that gap nicely.
The combination of a stacked sensor, fast electronic shutter, advanced autofocus, and professional video features would give Nikon something quite different from the Z50 II. It could also make the Z70 an interesting alternative for photographers who don’t necessarily need the size, weight, or cost of a full-frame flagship.
For wildlife photographers in particular, the APS-C sensor provides additional reach without requiring an even longer and heavier lens. A high-speed body built around that concept could be a compelling addition to Nikon’s lineup.
For now, though, all we have is a briefly visible Apple listing and a collection of rumors. Nikon has not confirmed the existence of the Z70, its specifications, or even that it is developing a high-end APS-C camera.
Until Nikon makes an official announcement, this one should be treated as a rumor. But if Apple’s listing was genuine, we may have just gotten our first accidental confirmation that Nikon’s next high-end APS-C camera is on the way.
