Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup is still months away, but rumors continue to paint a clearer picture of what to expect. The latest reports include claims of a leaked drop test video for the iPhone 18 Pro, while new details have also emerged about Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone.

According to current reports, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone Ultra in September. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and second-generation iPhone Air are rumored to follow in spring 2027.

As with all pre-release reports, none of the following information has been confirmed by Apple.

Foldable iPhone Ultra Reportedly Entering Production

Much of the attention has centered on Apple’s first foldable smartphone, which several reports refer to as the iPhone Ultra.

According to a report from Nikkei Asia, Apple has reportedly begun ramping up production ahead of launch, with a target of producing approximately 10 million units this year.

If accurate, it would mark Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market, where companies such as Samsung, Huawei, Honor, and Google already have established products.

What We Know So Far

Current rumors suggest the foldable iPhone will feature a 5.5-inch outer display that expands into a 7.8-inch inner display when unfolded. The larger display is expected to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, making it closer to the proportions of an iPad than a traditional smartphone.

Reports also indicate the rear camera module may include only two cameras, with Apple reportedly omitting a dedicated telephoto lens. The camera bump is expected to protrude slightly from the rear panel due to the device’s reported 4.5mm thickness when unfolded.

One of the more surprising rumors is that the foldable iPhone may abandon Face ID altogether. Because of the device’s thin profile, reports claim Apple may not have enough space to house the TrueDepth camera system. Instead, the company is said to be returning to a side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.

Premium Materials

The rumored iPhone Ultra is expected to feature a frame constructed from titanium and aluminum.

Its folding mechanism is also said to use a liquid metal hinge, a material known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and improved resistance to wear and corrosion. A more durable hinge would be particularly important for a foldable device designed to withstand hundreds of thousands of opening and closing cycles over its lifetime.

Rumored color options include a silver/white finish, an indigo color similar to the iPhone 17 Pro’s Deep Blue finish, and another white variant, although details remain inconsistent across reports.

Pricing and Availability

Current rumors suggest the foldable iPhone Ultra will start at more than $2,000, positioning it as Apple’s most expensive smartphone to date.

Apple has not confirmed any launch details, but the foldable model is widely expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during the company’s traditional September launch event.

Until Apple makes an official announcement, all specifications, pricing, and release timelines should be treated as rumors.
