Nikon may have unintentionally revealed its long-rumored high-end APS-C mirrorless camera. An illustration included in an official regulatory filing for a new wireless remote appears to show an unfamiliar Nikon camera, leading to speculation that the company is preparing to introduce the Z70.
Nikon recently registered a wireless remote with the model number N2416. However, drawings submitted to the FCC caught the attention of camera enthusiasts because they appear to include a camera that does not match any of the existing models in Nikon’s lineup.
According to Nikon Rumors, the camera shown in the filing is indeed the rumored Z70. The publication also suggests that a new button on the camera’s top plate is intended for video recording, potentially signaling Nikon’s growing interest in video-focused features across its mirrorless lineup.

Nikon Z70 Could Be a Mini Z9 With RED Technology
Nikon’s acquisition of RED and the subsequent introduction of the ZR cinema camera have fueled speculation about the company’s future camera lineup. Nikon is also developing cinema lenses for the ZR and potentially other cinema cameras.
The Z70 could be another example of Nikon bringing more video capabilities to its mirrorless cameras. Apple previously included the Nikon Z70 in a list of cameras supporting ProRes RAW recording, although the company later removed the listing. That earlier appearance was another potential indication that an unreleased Nikon camera was in development.
According to the latest rumors, the Z70 could feature a 41-megapixel stacked sensor paired with Nikon’s EXPEED 7 image processor. This combination suggests that the camera could offer high-speed shooting performance, positioning it as a modern APS-C counterpart to the popular Nikon D500 DSLR.
The camera is also rumored to support 8K60p video recording and a shooting refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second with autofocus and autoexposure.
High-End Viewfinder and New Digital Teleconverter
Other rumored specifications include an electronic viewfinder with 5.76-million dots, matching the resolution of the one found in the Nikon Z6 III.
The Z70 could also introduce a new digital teleconverter mode. This feature was reportedly spotted in material associated with the launch of the NIKKOR Z 120-300mm F2.8 TC VR S. It is expected to work as a digital crop mode, giving photographers additional reach without requiring a longer lens.
Nikon Rumors also reports that the camera will incorporate RED technology and support ProRes RAW recording. These features would align with speculation that Nikon intends to give the Z70 stronger video capabilities than its existing APS-C cameras.
If the rumored specifications prove accurate, the Z70 could become a particularly versatile camera for photographers and filmmakers looking for high-end performance in a smaller sensor format.

According to Nikon Rumors, the Z70 could be priced below $2,000. The publication also claims that an announcement is expected within the next two weeks.
Nikon has not officially confirmed the camera or provided any information about its specifications, pricing, or release schedule. For now, the rumored features and potential launch window should be treated with caution.
