It looks like Sony could be adding several new E-mount lenses to its lineup this month. A new report indicates that the company will announce three lenses on September 8, including two super telephoto primes and a new fisheye zoom.
Sony Alpha Rumors reports that a trusted source has confirmed Sony will announce the lenses on September 8 at 3 p.m. BST. According to the report, the lineup will include the Sony FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS, FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS, and FE 8-14mm F/3.5 G Fisheye.
Two New Telephoto Primes
It would be interesting to see Sony introduce two telephoto primes at the same time, particularly after the company has already released two 100-400mm zoom lenses in recent months.
The FE 100-400mm F/4.5 GM OSS was announced in May, followed by the more affordable FE 100-400mm F/5.6-8 OSS in August. If the rumors are accurate, Sony will now add two longer prime lenses to its E-mount lineup.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors, the upcoming FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS will measure 108 x 263mm and weigh approximately 994g. The lens is reportedly expected to cost between $2,699 and $2,899.
For comparison, the rumored Sony lens would be approximately 14 percent lighter and around $500 cheaper than Nikon’s Z 400mm F/4.5 VR S.
The rumored FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS is expected to have the same 108 x 263mm dimensions and weigh approximately 995g. Sony Alpha Rumors reports a price of around $3,800, which would make it roughly 28.4 percent lighter and $1,300 cheaper than the Nikon Z 600mm F/6.3 VR S.
If those specifications and prices prove accurate, Sony could be positioning both lenses as relatively lightweight alternatives to comparable full-frame super telephoto primes.

An Ultra-Wide Fisheye Zoom
The third rumored lens is the FE 8-14mm F/3.5 G Fisheye. Sony Alpha Rumors reports that the lens will cost approximately $1,499.
The insider has also shared leaked images of the upcoming fisheye lens. The leaked images, combined with the reported specifications and pricing, provide additional indications that an announcement could be imminent.
An 8-14mm focal range would give Sony shooters an extremely wide perspective, with the fisheye design opening up creative possibilities for architecture, landscapes, interiors, and experimental photography.

A Busy Day for Sony Shooters
September 8 could be a particularly busy day for Sony E-mount users. In addition to the rumored Sony lenses, Sigma is also rumored to announce its own 85mm F/1.2 FE and 20-60mm F/2.8-4 lenses on the same day.
That could make September 8 one of the more significant days for new E-mount optics this year, with multiple manufacturers potentially expanding the system at the same time.

No Official Confirmation from Sony
Sony has not officially confirmed a lens announcement for September 8, so the reported lineup should still be treated as a rumor for now.
However, the detailed specifications, pricing information, and leaked images suggest that an announcement could be close. Fortunately, we will not have to wait long to find out, with the rumored announcement date now just hours away.
