Fujifilm FinePix V10 Timing
Good speed for a consumer camera.
Startup/Shutdown |
||
Power on to first shot |
2.0 seconds |
Time it takes for LCD to turn on and lens to deploy. |
Shutdown |
1.0 second |
How long it takes to retract lens and stow in your pocket. |
Buffer clearing time |
1.2 seconds (Large/Fine JPEG, Four shots in continuous mode) |
Worst case buffer clearing time. This is the delay after a set of shots before you can remove the card. Some cameras won't retract their lenses and shut down until the buffer is cleared. |

0.54 second |
Time from fully pressing shutter button to image capture, zoom lens at wide angle position. |
Full Autofocus Tele |
0.51 second |
Time from fully pressing shutter button to image capture, zoom lens at telephoto position. |
Prefocused |
0.018 second |
Time to capture, after half-pressing and holding shutter button. |

Single Shot mode Large Fine JPEG |

Time per shot, averaged over 20 shots |
Single Shot mode 640x480 JPEG |
1.36 seconds |
Time per shot, averaged over 20 shots |
Early shutter penalty? |
Yes |
Some cameras won't snap another shot if you release and press the shutter too quickly in Single Shot mode, making "No" the preferred answer. |
Continuous mode Large Fine JPEG |
0.97 second (1.03 frames per second); 4 shot buffer capacity; ~1.2 seconds to clear |
Time per shot, averaged over buffer length of 4 shots. After buffer fill, drops to 1.24 sec/shot, 0.81 fps. |
Continuous mode 640x480 JPEG |
1.04 second (0.96 frames per second); No apparent limit |
Time per shot, averaged over 20 shots. |

The V10's performance is quite good for the most part, despite a somewhat slow continuous mode cycle time (1.03 frames per second for only four frames). However, it starts up fairly quickly, and has a very fast shutter response at wide angle and telephoto. "Prefocusing" the camera by half-pressing and holding down the shutter button before the final exposure results in a super-fast 0.018-second lag time. Shot to shot cycle times are good, at about 1.23 seconds for large/fine JPEGs, and it captures frames continuously at this rate. (There's no apparent buffer capacity limit in single-shot mode.) The flash takes about 5.8 seconds to recharge after a full-power shot, a bit on the slower side of average but not bad for a compact camera. Connected to a computer, download speeds are very fast, meaning you won't feel a need for a separate card reader. Bottom line, while not a first choice for sports or other fast-paced action, the Fujifilm V10 is responsive enough to handle most family photo opportunities.
Battery and Storage Capacity
Battery
Moderate battery life.
| LiIon rechargeable battery | 170 |
The Fujifilm V10 uses a custom rechargeable LiIon battery for power. The table above shows the number of shots the camera is capable of, based on CIPA battery-life and/or manufacturer standard test conditions. Given the somewhat limited run time, you should definitely consider purchasing a second battery to pack along on extended outings. (170 shots is quite a few for most consumers, but that figure doesn't include running the camera in playback mode to view your photos.)
Storage
A 16MB xD Picture Card is included with the Fuji FinePix V10.
16MB Memory Card |
Fine | Normal | |
| 2,592 x 1,944 | Images | 6 | 12 |
| File Size | 2.5 MB | 1.3 MB | |
| 2,048 x 1,536 | Images | - | 20 |
| File Size | - | 786 KB | |
| 1,600 x 1,200 | Images | - | 25 |
| File Size | - | 626 KB | |
| Images | - | 124 | |
| File Size | - | 128 KB | |
We strongly recommend buying at least a 128MB xD card, preferably a 256MB one, to give yourself extra space for extended outings.
