To this day, one of my biggest weaknesses as a photographer is figuring out how best to pose a subject when shooting any kind of portrait. I’ve shot hundreds of portraits, posed and otherwise, over my five year photography career, but to this day I still struggle at times to keep subjects natural looking while giving them direction.

Photographer Mike Browne has created a helpful video for those of you like me, who struggle posing a subject. Aptly titled, ‘How To Lean Posing Techniques’, the 16-minute video walks through almost every step of the process imaginable using a professional model.

Browne says hiring a professional model might be the best thing you can do to learn how best to pose subjects. After all, their jobs consist mostly of posing, and it’s a safe bet they’ve seen and heard the best – and worse - advice out there.

The video presents a unique approach to learning posing, as much of it is a dialogue between Browne and his model. Press play and toss the video in your bookmarks when you’re finished – this is one you’re going to want to come back to down the road.
