YI Technology has released a new 4K action camera, the 4K+, which according to YI is currently the world’s highest-spec action camera. They also state that it is the first virtual reality-grade action camera to record 4K video at 60 frames per second. This product was initially announced at CES 2017.

What makes the YI 4K+ particularly attractive is its price point, which comes in at just under US$340. This is very impressive considering its specifications. Sean Da, CEO of YI Technology says of the 4K+, “Following the success of our YI 4K Action Camera and the overwhelmingly positive feedback and enthusiasm for the 4K+ at CES 2017, we are proud to release what we believe to be the world’s best action camera. As always, we have listened to all the feedback from our customers, both professional and consumer, to offer the most advanced image quality settings for pros, while maintaining a simple and intuitive interface.”

The YI 4K+ shares many features with the YI 4K action camera, but introduces numerous improvements beyond the increase frame rate. The 4K+ is the first camera to utilize an Ambarella H2 SoC processor, which offers a maximum bitrate of 120Mbps. This helps improve the camera’s battery life, which is approximately 71 minutes when recording 4K 60fps video. The 4K+ also includes electronic image stabilization support when recording 4K video at 30fps and improved outdoor audio capture. There will be a firmware update after release which adds live streaming, RAW image capture and voice command technology for hands-free control.

The 4K+ is also backwards compatible with all YI 4K accessories, including waterproof housing and the original handheld gimbal accessory in addition to a new YI Handheld Gimbal 2.
