The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD's lens covers a large 15x zoom range, equivalent to a 27-414mm zoom on a 35mm camera. At full wide angle, overall performance is good. Some blurring is present in the corners, and a small amount of coma distortion is present around the leaves surrounded by sky, but the level of detail attributable to optical quality is good throughout most of the frame. Results are very good at full telephoto, though some fairly bright chromatic aberration is noticeable on the edges of the white house trim. The camera's 5.7x digital zoom had trouble holding onto fine detail with the digital enlargement.
A tiny macro area, though soft detail. On-board flash is unavailable at this range.
The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD's macro setting captured a very small minimum area measuring 0.96 x 0.72 inches (24 x 18 millimeters). Resolution is high, but overall detail is soft, with additional softening in the corners of the frame. There's also noticeable chromatic aberration along the high-contrast elements. The FinePix S2000HD's built-in flash is unavailable at such close range, so you'll definitely need an external light source for shots this close. Though the Fujifilm S2000HD captures a close image, it's both too soft and too fraught with chromatic aberration to recommend as a Macro camera.

The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD's 1.0% barrel distortion at wide angle is higher than average compared to the most consumer digital cameras, but that's not too much of a surprise given the very wide 27mm equivalent. At the telephoto end, the FinePix S2000HD's 0.2% pincushion distortion is moderate, and not very noticeable in its images. Distortion is the tendency for the lens to bend straight lines outward (like a barrel -- usually at wide angle) or inward (like a pincushion -- usually at telephoto).

Chromatic aberration appears moderately high at wide angle, with bright coloration on either side of the target lines. At telephoto, distortion is stronger, with more affected pixels and much brighter coloration. The effect is very noticeable in many of the Fujifilm S2000HD's full telephoto images, especially those with high contrast elements. Chromatic aberration is a form of distortion visible as a slight colored fringe around the objects at the edges of the field of view on the resolution target.

The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD produced slightly soft corners of the frame at full wide angle, with the strongest blurring in the lower right corner. At full telephoto, the effect was more intense, with very strong blurring in all four corners. The strongest distortion at telephoto occurred in the upper left corner, though results at center were also a little soft.
Very good accuracy from the EVF and the LCD monitor.

The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD's EVF and LCD monitor both proved very accurate, with practically identical results. The EVF showed about 103% coverage accuracy at wide angle, and about 99% at telephoto. Results were just a percentage point off with the LCD monitor at wide angle, at 102%, but the same at telephoto. Very good results.
