Why We Like the Fujifilm X-M5

The X-M5 combines a 26.1MP APS-C sensor with Fujifilm’s color profiles and Film Simulation modes, making it easy to produce distinctive JPEGs straight out of the camera. A dedicated Film Simulation dial provides quick access to these looks without requiring you to dig through menus.

For video creators, one of its biggest attractions is 6.2K open-gate recording at up to 30fps. By capturing a taller portion of the sensor, open-gate footage gives you more flexibility to reframe videos for vertical platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, as well as conventional widescreen formats. The camera also supports 4K recording at up to 60fps and Full HD slow-motion recording at higher frame rates.

The X-M5 can shoot still images at up to 8 frames per second with its mechanical shutter, or up to 30fps with the electronic shutter using a 1.25x crop. That gives photographers options for capturing action, although the electronic shutter can introduce rolling-shutter distortion with fast-moving subjects.

Its fully articulating touchscreen makes it easy to frame yourself while recording, whether you’re shooting vertically or horizontally. Fujifilm also includes multiple built-in microphone pickup modes, along with support for external microphones, helping creators adapt audio capture to different recording situations.

At approximately 355 grams with a battery and memory card, the X-M5 is easy to carry for travel, everyday photography, and content creation. The included memory card and cleaning accessories also provide useful extras for getting started.

What to Consider Before Buying

The X-M5 does not have an electronic viewfinder, so you’ll compose images using the rear LCD. That can be convenient for video and vlogging, but photographers who prefer holding a camera to their eye may find the omission limiting, particularly in bright sunlight.

It also lacks in-body image stabilization. You’ll need to rely on an optically stabilized lens, a tripod, or other stabilization equipment to help reduce camera shake. Digital stabilization options may also crop the frame, depending on the selected video settings.

Finally, check whether the Amazon bundle includes a lens. The X-M5 is available as a body-only camera and in lens kits, and the value of this particular offer depends on the exact package contents. If it is body-only, you’ll need a compatible Fujifilm X-mount lens before you can start shooting.
