Last week, Sony announced the A7 and A7r, which will be the first widely affordable mirrorless full-frame cameras. Simultaneously, Sony also unveiled five lenses to accompany the two new cameras, but it hasn't taken long for the first third party lensmakers to jump on board, too. Budget lensmaker Samyang has announced five of its lenses will be available for full-frame Sony E-mount, and that they will be released in the next two months.

The lenses will be:

  • Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC
  • Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC
  • Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC
  • Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC

The press release also states:

Samyang Sony E-mount series will allow all Sony NEX owners to fully experience high quality optics without additional adapters. Giving the fact, that lenses are prepared for 35mm format, they will perfectly work with not only APS-C cameras, such as Sony NEX 7, but also with the newest Sony Alpha 7R and Sony Alpha 7.

To parse that poorly translated English, these are 35mm lenses for E-mount systems — and will work as either full-frame lenses on the A7 and A7r; or cropped down for APS-C sensors.

Samyang lenses are also often rebranded, so that means you'll see this same handful released under the Rokinon and Bower brands in the same time period. And since they're doubtless the same as the extant Samyang lenses with the same focal lengths, we're expecting similar prices.

If you're interested in more first party support, a Sony lens roadmap seems to suggest that the company has ten more lenses in the works to release by the 2015.
