The Tamron 35mm f/1.8 Di USD and Tamron 45mm f/1.8 Di USD lenses that were released for Canon EF and Nikon F mounts last fall will start shipping for Sony A-mount cameras on May 12th, Tamron has announced. While the Canon and Nikon mount versions of the lens include vibration compensation, which the Sony lenses do not, they are otherwise identical -- and that's good news, because we came away from our reviews of the Canon-mount variants pretty impressed by these optics.

We found that the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD SP lens offers decent sharpness at its maximum aperture, and very good performance when stopped down. It doesn't suffer from too much aberration, doesn't exhibit considerable light falloff, and offers pretty good autofocus performance. Seasoned lens reviewer Andrew Alexander concluded our review very positively, noting that "there's a lot to like in the Tamron 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD SP."

And it was much the same for the Tamron 45mm f/1.8 Di VC USD SP. This 45mm prime lens provides excellent sharpness, good control of light falloff, and while autofocus is somewhat slow, our reviewer and Associate Editor William Brawley nevertheless recommended it as an overall great choice for full-frame photographers looking for a portrait prime.

Both lenses have a premium feel and a great build quality. They're both weather-sealed and constructed from lightweight aluminum. They do come at a somewhat premium price, however, with both optics selling for right around US$600. Check out the video below to see them in action.
