Professional nature and wildlife photographer Morten Hilmer was recently in Scotland to photograph mountain hares - which you can see here and here - but he also took some time to photograph wild stags while visiting Scotland. Hilmer's been in the Scottish Highlands for three weeks so far and his third week has been dedicated to photographing stags.

The Highlands are a special place for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the stunning landscape. While it's often the case that wildlife images show a lot of the subject and not necessarily a lot of the surrounding environment, you can make some amazing wildlife images by incorporating the animal's surroundings.

Equipped with a Nikon D5 and a Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E lens, Hilmer takes both approaches, zooming in on his subject for some shots and also capturing a lot of the scene in other cases. Join Hilmer as he photographs stags in a snowy Scotland below.
